Occupational
Personality Questionnaires.
The Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ) is published
by SHL and provides a profile of an individual's perception
of their behaviour in a work environment.
By understanding an individual's style, we can gain information
on how a person is likely to fit within certain work environments
and teams. It may also provide some insight into how a person
will cope with different job requirements.
In addition to being used for the purposes of Assessment and
Selection, the OPQ can also be used for a wide range of other
applications, including:
-
Career
Management:
OPQ feedback can provide an individual with valuable insight
into their preferences within a work environment. This can
help them consider various career options and to make career
choices, most suited to their own interests. It can also
assist in understanding, how the individual will approach
the process of career planning.
-
Succession
Planning:
Effective succession planning relies on an appreciation
of the extent to which jobs differ within an organisation.
While it is essential to know the knowledge and skills required
for each job, it is also important to have an understanding
of the personality requirements for different roles. The
OPQ can be used to take into consideration how potential
candidates match these requirements.
-
Tailored
Management Development:
The output from OPQ can be invaluable in the development
arena, by providing individuals with a detailed insight
into their behaviour at work. It can be used as part of
a development discussion in providing insight into how a
person's behaviour influences performance in different work
situations. In addition it can also be combined with a variety
of 360 degree instruments, in order to provide an all round
view of how a person sees themselves compared to how others
perceive the person, in a work environment.
The Occupational Personality Questionnaire reports on 32 different
criteria, which are grouped under three main headings:
